Alyia Bubbles - she puts the bubbles in our tea!

Posted on April 13, 2016

Alyia exists in a cutesy world of pink, cupcakes and make-up. But don’t go underestimating her as a princess. If anything, she’s a multi-lingual warrior princess!

This local YouTube influencer has slick production values; her high quality videos are interspersed with poppy backing tracks and perfectly matched pastel graphics. She must be following the SushiVid blog because this social media maestro is engaging her audience across all the channels and posting to a regular schedule. And she’s promised a giveaway when she reaches 5,000 subscribers.

But, what we love about Alyia most of all is that she doesn’t shy away from being herself. Her effervescent personality shines through all her videos, even when she’s being brutally honest. What’s more, she not afraid of standing up to those haters. Full marks to you Alyia for defying the trolls!

Here’s what Alyia shared with us over some sushi:

1. Which is your most memorable YouTube video so far?

My most memorable video is 'Alyia Speaks in Korean Language'. I made the video because I was devastated seeing comments from viewers saying I ‘shouldn't speak English because I'm terrible at it’, or I'm ‘a Malay so I should talk in Malay Language only’ and other negative comments about how I speak English. I wanted to prove that they're wrong and I wanted to break that mentality. I just started my YouTube channel, so how I convey my message might not be the best, but at least I try to make myself better. I can speak any language I want despite my ethnicity and my mother tongue. I stand for this Chinese proverb saying "学一门语言,就是多一个观察世界的窗户"and the English translation is "to learn language is to have one or more window from which to look at the world".

2. Why did you start YouTube-ing?

I started making YouTube videos because I have liked digital art & video editing since I was in secondary school. Youtube seems to be a good a platform for me to channel my passion and improve my skill; so, I decided to combine two of my passions, video editing & Asian beauty, and that's how it all started :)

3. Who is the YouTuber you admire the most and why?

Wengie! Because I can feel how hard she worked to be where she is now and she does really appreciate every one of us that supports her. I am someone who appreciates hard work and genuine heart.

4. How did you get your first 300 subscribers?

I couldn't remember it clearly but I think it was because of my 'How to lose weight without exercise (10kg)' video. I guess a lot of people don't like exercise, hehe!
